Dear Mikey

May 23, 2012

Lots of birthdays this week, huh?  Guess what?  There’s more to come!  Yay for birthdays?! Yay for cake!

Dear Mikey,

Can you believe it’s been a MONTH already?  A month since your adorable little Zoe was born —  that’s just crazy!  You know what else is crazy?  Zoe shares a birthday with TMtP!  Yes, it’s true.  Of course, we celebrate TMtP’s birthday on the 23rd of every month, and really, for Zoe’s sake, we’re going to go ahead and suggest that you do that as well (Zoe, you can thank us later if your daddy actually goes for that. You know, once you develop the capacity for speech and whatnot).

Now, Mikey, we absolutely loved reading the entry you wrote on your blog about dear Zoe.  She’s just totally precious, and is one of those babies that allows you to be completely honest when you tell the parents that she’s cute.  She’s totally a gorgeous baby (See?  No lies!).  But you know that we can’t focus on just the fluffy goodness here at TMtP.  We want to know the funny stuff, too.  So, we’re curious: what has been the funniest moment you’ve experienced since Zoe Dance Christensen came into your life?  Has there been anything that made you giggle or snort or both (snorggle?)?

And while we’re pretty sure everyone would be happy enough with adorable baby information, we do feel the need to at least pretend to relate this back to Vocal Point in some way.  So, we gotta know: which (if any) of the VP guys would you actually trust to babysit Zoe?  Let’s just remind you of this little incident as you try to decide:

Yeah.  Choose wisely.

And finally, we would love to see a few more baby pictures, but if you feel that’s too creepy, you can always just find a stock picture of a cute baby online and send that instead.  We’re good either way.

So, from this five-month-old blog to your one-month-old daughter, we say “Happy Birthday!”  And we can’t wait to hear how things are going. 🙂

Dear Mikey

March 28, 2012

Dear Mikey,

Hey, Mikey!  Long time, no chat!  We’ve got a bit of an old-school question we want to float your way.  And by “old school” we mean “from the Sing-off” because we refuse to let those glory days die.

Anyway, we (clearly) loved Vocal Point’s performances on the Sing-off.  “Footloose”, “Jump Jive”, and “Every Little Step”… these songs speak to us.  But some of the other groups got to perform awesome songs too.  So here’s what we’re wondering: are there any songs that another group did on the “Sing-off” that you wish you had been able to do with Vocal Point (either on the Sing-off or just at some other point together as a group)?

Say, for example, were you just itching to give “Video Killed the Radio Star” a go?

(Um… Hunsaker as a robot? Yes, please!)

Or perhaps you had choreographic visions of glory to go along with “Shout.”

(Hmm… who is the VP-er most likely to pull off the split?)

Or maybe you even gazed into the future and imagined the fifty year reunion of the 2010-2011 Vocal Point line-up busting out a little “Unchained Melody.”

So again, we’re not necessarily asking for a song you wish VP could have done in lieu of a performance you guys had on the show.  Just something you saw that you would like to put the ol’ Vocal Point spin on.

Dear Mikey,

So, when we said we’d give you a hot mess to “sort through that’s all up in your wheelhouse,” once we got to know your personality and writing style better, we didn’t think you’d take it upon yourself to drop some oh-so-subtle hints as to just what might suit you best (but hey, we’re glad you did!).  Or that it would involve “sorting” in such a direct way.  But far be it from us to deny you this opportunity (and what a bold choice indeed to join Keith in the pop culture and VP mash-up category).  If you’re ready to take on this task, here it goes:

Mikey, if you were the Sorting Hat,

(from SeverusSnape340’s youtube)

into which Hogwarts house would you sort each member of Vocal Point (2010-2011)? Of course, if you happen to know any of the New Guys well enough, feel free to sort them, too.

All four houses — Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin — must be represented. Yes, someone has to be in Slytherin. But don’t worry, Snape was in Slytherin and he was one of the best characters (love Alan Rickman) and (SPOILER ALERT – wait, do we still have to spoiler alert books that came out five years ago?) he was a good guy in the end.

We’ll give you bonus blog points if you kick off your Sorting ceremony with a little song, as is the Sorting Hat’s tradition in the books. 🙂

Dear Mikey,

Well, you are clearly the TMtP expert on Vocal Point nicknames. We’ve certainly enjoyed the knowledge you’ve dropped on us so far regarding them. We have noticed a glaring omission, though. We’re curious: are there any other nicknames that’ve been bestowed upon you we should know about?

You know, besides… “Mikey?”

And, out of ALL the VP nicknames, for all of the guys, which is your ultimate, most epic favorite?

We know this is a pretty straightforward question as compared to that convoluted thing we dropped on Keith last week. Don’t you worry, though. Once we get to know your writing style and personality a little bit better, we’re fairly positive we’ll come up with some sort of a hot mess for you to sort through that’s all up in your wheelhouse.

Well, it seems as though McFury didn’t take too kindly to Kevin’s betrayal, or Keith’s just decided to take a blog break right now, so we’ve decided to try to enlist some reinforcements. It’s sort of like when Samwise took on the burden of the Ring for Frodo… or something.  And who better to entrust with that task than our top VP commenter, Michael the Brave? Now, we know that Mikey tends to only check in every few days, so we may have to be patient to see if he’ll accept getting his own blog feature.  If he chooses to, here’s our first question:

Dear Mikey,

So, in the group intro pieces on The Sing-off, the Dartmouth Aires were shown cliff jumping and talking about all of the extreme things they do. Vocal Point sang on a playground.

We know that playground singing isn’t a normal activity for y’all, but we were wondering if as a group (or individually) you all enjoy adventure activities. Because there’s like mountains and stuff in Utah.  Apparently.  This is what the travel guides we keep checking are telling us.
