Hey, y’all! We’re back! We just wanted to say a quick thanks to everyone who wished us a happy break. We’ve rested up, regrouped, and are ready to get back into the fun, bloggy goodness. 🙂
As we continue to work our way through the various Vocal Point source material out in the ether, we’ve come to realize that there are occasionally some fun moments that don’t really fit into other posts. For example, it’s not likely that we’ll ever do a performance analysis on a full opening number, since there’s so much non-VP riff raff (well, they’re not actually riff raff, they’re just not normally TMtP-applicable) to sort through, but there are some fantastic gems sprinkled throughout those things. And sometimes we realize that in creating the broad narrative of a post, we’ll skip over an awkwardly-fitting but sparkling little nugget of awesome that gets left behind like Olive in Little Miss Sunshine.
So, we’ve decided to give ourselves permission to go back and polish those nuggets or throw those gems in the blog rock tumbler (anyone ever have one of those as a kid? Most disappointing expectations-to-results ratio EVER). That’s why we’ll be doing a few of these “Fav Moments” posts. They’re just our chance to highlight something that makes us smile, or giggle, or squee in excitement.
To kick this whole thing off, we’re going to look at one of our favorite Jake moments from the Sing-off. This occurred during the R&B week opening number. First, let’s take a look at Jake’s full solo from the performance.

You’ll want to watch until 1:23 to see all of the Jake solo goodness.
In general, Jake is just relaxed and adorable throughout his whole part. He’s even verging on Shelf Person territory the entire time. But there’s one thing he does that, no matter how many times we re-watch it (which… y’all don’t want to know how many that truly has been), always manages to bring smiles to our faces. May we direct your attention back to 1:21?
Oh our goodness, the Jake Wink. It’s just so… happy. We heart it big time. It starts off just on the normal side of Creepy and then segues fully into Too-Adorable-To-Handle-Okay-You-Can-Be-A-Shelf-Person-With-McButters-As-Long-As-You-Keep-Winking before we can even tell what’s hit us.
There are a few other fantastic VP moments in this opener, but maybe we’ll highlight them another time. For now, let’s all enjoy the Jake Wink (over, and over, and just one more time again) and the reflexive smiles it induces.
